The program also offers students an alternative look at the approach of media and journalism in general. Additionally, the website offers transcripts of interviews, links for further research and an opportunity for teachers to share usage in the classroom. Additionally, Democracy Now is frequently the news source that breaks stories that can take months to get into mainstream media. A good example of this is the recent civil rights violation in Jena , LA. Democracy Now provides interviews with the students , families and citizens of Jena. The case that became known as the Jena Six, was brought to listeners months before any mainstream news programs picked it up. It s approach to the issue also proved to be more consistent and in-depth. This is the advantage for the teacher s use with students , as there is more than a sound bite or simple interview for students to ponder.
