Next Portrait Comprehensive site for all information related to David Korten publications, appearances, etc: http://www.davidkorten.org/ David Korten's blog at YES! Magazine is a regular source for classroom discussion and writing/research prompts. Use it on a regular basis to build an ongoing understanding of David's ideas for a new economy in your students: David Korten's biograpy and ideas about our economy are an excellent topic for an Americans Who Tell the Truth interview/forum process, as outlined on page 3 of our curriculum: http://www.americanswhotellthetruth.org/curriculum/curriculum3.php Students could interview and share those findings, create a forum discussion with actions steps using community organizations that they find while in process. Using David's ideas related to community and new economy, the forum could be a powerful exercise in creating actions steps as an outcome with students. Focusing on local economies and issues will help them ensure this is not an empty process of ideas but a more satisfying one that allows them to create change. Help students identify simple changes that can be made within their "school economy" and community as an alternative if you cannot host a community forum. Find ways to create action steps out of this study. This is particulary important with David Korten's biography , writings and work! Use the poster resources at YES! Magazine to support your student's understanding of David Korten's work. They can then create their own "steps to..." posters and display in the school. Use these to educate others in the school community , post them at local libraries, etc. Educate others about their findings related to David Korten's ideas! http://www.yesmagazine.org/posters Hear David Korten speak with Democracy Now about going from "phantom wealth to real wealth." This will help students understand this basic concept David asks us to embrace. http://www.democracynow.org/2009/1/26/david_korten_agenda_for_a_new Hear David Korten express his ideas about why our economy needs to be overhauled and rethought: http://www.pbs.org/now/shows/505/new-economy.html |
