Americans Who Tell the Truth: Education, Democracy & Security at Schoodic Arts

Robert Shetterly's Americans Who Tell the Truth portraits and narratives highlight citizens who courageously address issues of social, environmental, and economic fairness. By combining art and other media, AWTT offers resources to inspire a new generation of engaged Americans who will act for the common good, our communities, and the Earth.

Americans Who Tell the Truth: Education, Democracy, & Security What kind of education should a democracy insist on for its children -- for all citizens -- for real security?

All the portraits I've selected for this show are contemporary people -- activists, educators, philosophers. The primary theme is about education. Underlying all the necessary requirements for a successful democracy is education. Unless all people are educated to be critical thinkers & to know what is required of them as citizens, the democracy will fail. A country's real security depends on the intelligence and engagement of its citizens. Although the single theme is education, the issues represented are broad.
