Art at the Barn: Americans Who Tell the Truth

Surry Arts Barn, 8 Cross Road, Surry, Maine
Tuesday, September 11, 7:00 p.m.

Robert Shetterly will be giving an illustrated history of the Americans Who Tell the Truth portrait project, telling stories of some of the past and present subjects, showing some of the original portraits, and discussing the lessons – political and historical – learned from it. He will talk about the educational work the project does in Maine middle schools – the Samantha Smith Challenge, and about his artistic method and evolving theories of art and culture. We look forward to a lively Q&A.

The 2017/18 Samantha Smith Challenge Celebration, an initiative of AWTT and MAMLE, convened on June 4, 2018 at Thomas College in Waterville, Maine. This year's theme was "Social Justice Through the Arts."

Free Admission: Donations gratefully accepted.
