September 20, 2018, 7-9 p.m.

Baldemar Velásquez is a highly renowned civil rights and farmworker rights activist and the founder and president of the Farm Labor Organizing Committee of the AFL-CIO. In partnership with Americans Who Tell the Truth, WERU is sponsoring this event as part of its 30th Anniversary celebration.

Join us at 6:15 for an early meet & greet gathering. Then hear Velásquez speak on the topic: “Farm Labor, Immigration and Social Justice.” Following Velasquez's talk expert panelists from Maine will join Velásquez: Jorge Acero (Maine Department of Labor), Edith Flores (Mano en Mano), and Cynthia Phinney (Maine AFL-CIO). This will include a question and answer period. Shawn and Maizey Mercer will open and close the evening with a musical performance.

Translation headphones will be available in Spanish and Haitian on a limited basis.

Many thanks to our generous co-sponsors: Maine AFL-CIO, Belfast Co-op, The Green Store, and The Crosby Center.

Baldemar Velásquez quote on AWTT portrait: “Speak truth to power with love in your heart. Pray for courage to speak it despite your fears. Explain the inequity and show your enemy the road to reconciliation.”
