Social Protest, Social Change and the Role of Art

ROCKLAND PUBLIC LIBRARY

Thursday July 25 at 6:30 PM

Discussion: Alan Magee and Rob Shetterly will have a dialogue on social protest, social change & the role of art.The artists, both Maine residents, will discuss their ideas on the obligations of artists in society and culture, how other artists have used art in different ways to raise awareness or effect change and specifically why they chose to make this type of art. They see the conversation as an opportunity for open discussion about peace activism, art making, and how the voice of social consciousness can become authentic and trusted or perceived as the rant of a crackpot.
